Building & Analyzing the World's Largest Beach Cleanup Database | Everyday AI Roadshow San Francisco

This is a featured session from the Everyday AI Roadshow in San Francisco on April 19th, 2023, featuring Axel Peytavin, Computational Modeling Engineer at The Ocean Cleanup.

Abstract:
Knowing that 97% of the floating plastic entering the oceans ends-up onshore, various organizations are focusing on beach areas to conduct cleanup activities. Dataikers and The Ocean Cleanup modelers have collaborated to collect data from over 15 organizations and build the world’s largest beach cleanup database. Analysis of this unique beach cleanup database represents a major opportunity to better understand how plastic ends up on beaches, leading to an improvement of different plastic cleaning strategies.
